Hostility, discrimination, and prejudice against Jews are currently resurgent across cultural, political, social, and economic spheres. Rigorous research and teaching are central to countering the resurgence of antisemitism and building the future of democratic societies, institutions, and civil society.
The Lab for the Global Study of Antisemitism, housed in the Anne Tanenbaum Centre for Jewish Studies and the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto, focuses on the multidisciplinary study of traditional, modern, and contemporary antisemitism. Our goal is to advance the field of antisemitism studies through research, teaching, and insights from the humanities, social sciences, life sciences, and professional fields like law, management, medicine, and public policy.
The Lab supports academic research projects, education, and events on the causes, manifestations, and effects of antisemitism. We hold regular events, such as a speaker series, seminars, and an annual conference. The Lab is developing courses on antisemitism for undergraduate and graduate students. And we are engaging in scholarly and public-facing scholarship to generate new research-based insights on antisemitism and how we can most effectively respond to it.
Our mandate includes building and strengthening global partnerships with other university-based antisemitism research centers, including in the US, Israel, and Europe.
We are enthusiastic about hosting visiting faculty members and postdoctoral fellows who wish to spend time with the Lab to develop their research and teaching on antisemitism, as well as visiting graduate students looking to pursue cutting-edge research in this field.
