- Canada’s musical legacy, beginning in the present day and extending back in time to the 19th century and earlier.
- Served as the English style editor for the second edition of the Encyclopedia of Music in Canada (1992)
- Edited three volumes of chamber music for the Canadian Musical Heritage Society (1989, 1992, 1998), including compositions ranging in date from 1875 to 1945.
- Composer Istvan Anhalt (1919-2012)
- This work has resulted in two co-edited books (2001, 2011), two editions of music (2005), six scholarly peer-reviewed articles (2001-2011), and two invited public lectures (2008, 2011)
- Themes of Elliott’s research on Anhalt include: the influence of the Holocaust on his life and art; his intellectual legacy, as manifested in his compositions and analytical writings; and his pedagogical ideas as realized in his career as a teacher of composition and music theory.
