Description

Dr. Joanna Krongold is a Joint Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto’s Anne Tanenbaum Centre for Jewish Studies, the Temerty Faculty of Medicine’s Office of Inclusion and Diversity, and the Wilson Centre for Research in Education. Dr. Krongold’s doctoral dissertation explored the use of metaphor and figurative dynamics in children’s and young adult Holocaust literature, a topic she is expanding in a new project on ecocriticism and the Holocaust. Her current postdoctoral work examines antisemitism in health professions education. In her role as a joint postdoctoral fellow, she has collaborated on a project addressing the mid-20th century antisemitic quota system at U of T’s Faculty of Medicine (culminating in a formal apology from the Dean and many hospital CEOs) and taught an independently developed undergraduate course on the rise of antisemitism and Holocaust distortion during the COVID-19 pandemic. She is pursuing research based on her class, investigating how antisemitism fits into anti-racism education and programming, and participating in the creation of Holocaust curricula for health care workers.
