Afterwards/ Après Coup

Description: Three orphans of the 1942 deportation of Jews from France to Auschwitz and three survivors of the 1994 genocide of the Tutsi in Rwanda gather around a table in Paris. Their dialogue centres on the "afterwards": how they grew up without parents and without roots and how, even today, they are haunted by a deep solitude that resulted from the traumatic events that changed their lives.

A film by Susan Solomon and Amélie Mutarabayire Schafer. Nominated as Best Film in the Medium-Length Documentary category at the Vues d'Afrique International Film Festival, Montreal 2024.

Co-sponsored by the Toronto Jewish Film Festival, Centre for European and Eurasian Studies, and Chancellor Rose and Ray Wolfe Professor of Holocaust Studies at University of Toronto
